Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
What comes with my session?
In most cases, your session will include:
- a planning consultation
- a planning questionnaire
- a set amount of time / outfits / locations
- an online gallery of watermarked images to view and select your favorites
- a set number of your favorites professionally edited, delivered in a gallery format and available for downloading in high-resolution and/or web-size images
- a print credit toward professional products
For specific details regarding your session, please see the Investment page on my website.
What time of day do you prefer to shoot?
I can shoot any time of day, but these are the best times for lighting purposes. For outdoor sessions, my favorite time to shoot is a few hours before sunset to hopefully capture that infamous "golden hour" .
I also like to shoot in the first couple of hours after sunrise (but I realize most, especially high school seniors, aren't early risers).
Indoor sessions can be scheduled anytime of day.
What is your turnaround time?
My turnaround time for galleries to be delivered after a photoshoot depends on my workload at the time.
Spring, Summer, and Fall are by far my busiest times, so gallery delivery can be 4 to 6 weeks. In my slower months, gallery delivery can be as short as 2 weeks.
What areas do you serve?
I offer my photography services in two different areas: Siouxland and Okoboji.
Note: I charge for mileage for anything outside of a 25 miles radius from Sioux City or a 25 mile radius from Okoboji.
Do you travel?
Yes, I would love to travel.
I have traveled to Illinois, Colorado, and Texas for photos.
Note: I charge for mileage for anything outside of a 25 miles radius from Sioux City or a 25 mile radius from Okoboji.
Am I able to set up a payment plan?
Yes, I am happy to work with you to set up a payment plan that will work for both of us. Many of my sessions can be split into 3 equal payments. Please request this payment option before your session date.
Feel free to contact me to work out a payment plan that will work for you!
What are your typical edits?
I put a great amount of detail into every single photo. I do not batch edit my final images. Instead, the edits are done by hand for each individual photo! Here’s a list of my edits for the final images you select:

- each digital image comes in color and black and white
- each image gets individually assessed and hand edited based on lighting and location
- often includes a creative edit with a sky replacement, sun flare, sun burst, or something unique that might enhance the photo

Do you offer a consultation to meet and discuss plans for the photo shoot?
Yes, I will offer a free consultation in person or over the phone to discuss your ideas and wishes for the photoshoot. I actually prefer to meet with my clients before the shoot so we can get to know each other better before the day of the session.
Can I bring a pet to my session?
YES!! I love photographing pets with their humans! I always suggest having someone (not in the photo shoot) bring the pet at the beginning or end of the session and then leaving with the pet when the shots are done. You don't want to be distracted by a pet for the entire session.
Note: if it is a studio photo shoot, pets are unfortunately not allowed.
What do you do in the event of bad weather?
I pay attention to the weather leading up to your photo shoot.
If we need to adjust to an earlier or later time to avoid bad weather, I will always offer that to the client.
If we need to reschedule, I do leave a few days a month open as rain dates.
I am not sure how to pose. Do you offer help with this?
Don't worry, unless you have been modeling for years, almost everyone struggles to know what to do with your hands or how to pose. That is my job! I am a "professional hand director" and I will pose you in ways that look natural and complement you. I often provide prompts that will allow you to perform a certain movement or task, which leads to authentic, real, and beautifully candid moments.
If I order digital images from you or if my package comes with them, can I print photos anywhere I want?
Yes, when you purchase digital images from me, you get the full copyrights to the images.
You can go anywhere you wish to reproduce or enlarge them. However, I do also offer many wonderful products and high quality material for you to print and enlarge your photos. I will provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee on the products I provide.
However, if you take my digital images somewhere else to print them (i.e. Wal Mart, Walgreens), I cannot guarantee their quality.
Should I bring props to my session?
I love using props for photo sessions! You are welcome to bring anything that you wish.
Maybe a football for your Senior Session on the football field or a bouquet of flowers for your session in the tall grasses, etc.
Having something to hold in your hands always helps with posing options. Props are not required, but are a fun way to add extra personality to your session.
I do have a wide range of unique chairs, furniture, baskets, etc. to use as well. Check with me if you think you might like to use something I have!
Do you offer help deciding what to wear?
Yes, I will offer inspiration photos and give you guidance on what I have seen that works the best based on your locations and desired style.
What is your photography style?
My style is warm, natural, and story-driven. I love golden light, rich color, and genuine emotion. While I’ll guide you so you never feel awkward, I focus on creating relaxed, lifestyle moments that bring out real smiles and authentic connection. The result is timeless imagery that feels true to who you are—not overly posed or trendy, but beautifully you.
Do you shoot with the use of flash or natural light?
Both, however, I will use natural light as often as I can. A good rule of thumb is, if your session is outside, I will use natural light as much as I can. If your session is in a studio or indoors, I will likely incorporate flash or artificial light to get the best quality images possible.
What is needed to book a specific date with you?
You will need to decide on a session type, pay a non-refundable deposit of $75, and sign a contract that covers the specifics of the session.
Do you carry backup equipment?
Yes, I have a spare camera I can use if needed. I also save your photos on two separate SD cards, so if one card ever fails (which is rare), I have backup copies of the images. I also download your images to two different places.
